Almirante Leite Banks – Mozambique
Fishing Almirante Leite Banks is the ultimate offshore adventure for serious anglers.
Departing from Inhaca Island, near Maputo, this 6 night expedition offers an unrivaled opportunity to explore one of Africa’s most remote and fertile fishing grounds. Join a seasoned crew aboard a luxury catamaran as you chase big game species and refine your fishing techniques in deep, open waters.
Located approximately 120 km east of Santa Maria and Inhaca Island, the Almirante Leite Banks are a submerged volcanic formation situated in the path of the nutrient-rich Agulhas Current. This biologically rich current fuels an ecosystem teeming with life. The banks' dramatic underwater topography—featuring drop-offs, ridges, and craters rising from depths of 1000 m to just 60 m—creates perfect conditions for pelagic predators.

Fishing Almirante Leite Banks means targeting hard-fighting species like massive Yellowfin Tuna (20–90 kg), Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Sailfish, and all three Marlin species—Black, Blue, and Striped. With minimal sportfishing pressure, this location remains a hidden gem for trophy fishing.

Your journey takes place aboard a 50-foot fully crewed catamaran yacht with luxury accommodations, ensuite cabins, a saloon with entertainment, air conditioning, and panoramic views. Onboard amenities include an ice-maker, dual fridges, freezers, Starlink Wi-Fi, snorkeling gear, kayaks, and high-end trolling tackle.
Fishing Almirante Leite Banks is more than a trip—it’s an expedition into one of the last untouched frontiers of the Indian Ocean. Adventure, camaraderie, and world-class angling await.

Fishing Almirante Leite Banks
The Almirante Leite Banks are a remote, underwater geological formation located approximately 120 kilometers east of Santa Maria and Inhaca Island, off the coast of Mozambique.
These submerged seamounts are believed to be the remnants of an ancient underwater volcanic system, which created dramatic underwater terrain consisting of deep drop-offs, ridges, and crater-like structures.
The banks rise sharply from the ocean floor—from depths of over 1000 meters to as shallow as 60 meters—creating a unique vertical habitat that attracts a wide variety of marine life.

Positioned within the path of the Agulhas Current, one of the world's fastest and warmest ocean currents, the Almirante Leite Banks benefit from a constant flow of nutrient-rich waters. This upwelling supports a thriving food chain, from small baitfish to apex pelagic predators, making the area a prime fishing ground.
Despite its incredible potential, the banks remain largely untouched by commercial or recreational fishing, preserving their pristine and fish-rich ecosystem.

The location is ideal for targeting Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Sailfish, and all three major Marlin species—Black, Blue, and Striped.
The seclusion and challenging access mean that only well-equipped, long-range charter vessels venture here, adding to the allure for serious sport anglers seeking trophy catches and unspoiled waters.

Almirante Leite Banks represent one of the last frontiers for offshore fishing in the Indian Ocean—a hidden gem for marine exploration and big game fishing in Africa.
