This is a convenient fishing charter trip, especially for South Africans, and offers extreme angling at its best. For an “Off the chart experience” like no other, we have the pleasure of offering you an Open Ocean extreme popping and jigging fishing experience at Doggs Balls sea mount.

The seamount reef is 5nm wide and 74m at is shallowest depth. We departs from Richards Bay and cruise 200nm to this destination, but it is absolutely worth it!

Species on this South Africa deep sea fishing charter

You can expect to encounter and catch Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Trevally, Job Fish, Wahoo, GT, Amber Jacks, Rosy Job Fish, White Kingfish, Doggs, Reds, and Rockcard…the list is endless.

The kings, known as yellow tails (amberjack) are the real monsters here and are a prevalent species.

Itinerary

The trip departs from the Zululand Yacht Club, Richards Bay.

The charter departs at 7am on day 1.

It is a 30 hrs cruise to the main fishing grounds and we should encounter Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado and Marlin on the way.

When we arrive at reef, we shall take up drift fishing, popping and jigging for as long as the weather holds up in an insane fishing environment.

We will moor on the reef at night.

The return trip takes about 1 day or overnight. On arrival back in Richards Bay, you are welcome to take 10kg each of fish home for your families as we carry deepfreezes on the boat, so please ensure you have a camping fridge in the back of your vehicle if you have driven to Richards Bay.

Travel Insurance
Car parking fee of approximately R70 per vehicle per day.
All alcohol and soft drinks. You bring this with you if self-driving or you can arrange for us to purchase on your behalf. We will charge a levy of 25% of the bill for this service.
Fishing gear – you need to bring your own gear. We supply trolling gear only, lost line must be replaced, we don’t supply lures at all on this trip.
10 kg of fish will be allowed to be taken home, however you must supply verimaak vacuum rolls. You cant take the entire contents of fish home.
Gratuities - Please budget to tip the crew and captain if they did their job correctly. Please allocate at least R2000 per angler. This motivates the crew as they work hard for you and share the tips equally.
Local fishing permit. No permit no fishing.

EARLY BOARDING

As we depart early on day 1. If you wish to arrive the day before and want to stay on board for the night before, we will charge an early boarding fee of R500 per person, boarding from 3pm.

GETTING THERE

Flights to Richards bay Airport. We will collect you and transfer you to the vessel.

You are welcome to drive to Richards Bay too.

GEAR

You will be limited to 10kg clothing and 50kg of sporting equipment and max 15 cases of beer, as we need to store everything on-board including fuel and we are carrying a lot of fuel onboard. Fishing gear advise will be provided, as you need to go heavy duty gear for this trip, its serious!

FUEL

We cannot control the fuel prices our charters are based on.

All current charter trips are based on a fuel price of R22 a litre. We must load onto our vessel 2000 Litres of fuel for each trip. Should the price at the bowser 1 week before departure be higher than R22 per litre of fuel, we will ask all participants to contribute to the difference of the price, so that we can keep this trip affordable to all.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE ARE GOING TO HAVE BAD WEATHER

We have the option of delaying or moving your schedule up to ensure a good week’s weather. We will notify you 4 days before charter of the weather and departure time schedule changes should they be necessary for safety reasons.

DIETARY NEEDS

If you cant eat our standard menus, simply contact us and we will plan a menu accordingly.

WHAT IF WE WANT TO BRING MORE MEAT?

If you want to change the menu plan to more of a meat menu just ask. Please do bring a cooler box with additional steaks or chops. You are welcome to bring meat along with you.

BRING OWN SNACKS

Most persons as soon as they go to Sea want to snack all the time. Items such as chocolate, sweets, biltong and chips we recommend you bring your own with.
