St Brandon’s Atoll also known as the Cargados Carajos Shoals is a small group of 50 islands, shallow lagoons and sand flats 50 km in length and located 268 nautical miles north-east of Mauritius.

​St Brandon’s Atoll is a world class fly fishing and conventional fishing destination and is only accessible by boat.

​

The magnificent condition of the lobster infested coral reefs is the proof that except the small population of Creole natives who live on Raphael Island, there has been very little human interference at St. Brandon since it was first discovered.​

​

​St Brandon’s Atoll and its islands, flats and reefs are considered to be one of the best Bonefish grounds in the world. Only 200 visitors are allowed to visit each year and due to thus strict limitation, the environment remains in pristine condition.

REMOTE PRISTINE ENVIRONMENT

St Brandon’s is a remote destination with very little human interference during in its entire history and the magnificent condition of its lobster-infested outer are testament to this. Other that a small population of Creole natives who live on Raphael Island in the north of the group, this area remains undisturbed which is why the atoll has risen to iconic status in the world of saltwater fly-fishing.

BONE FISHING

St Brandon’s Atoll represents one of the finest bone fisheries on the planet. Here you will find the largest bonefish in high concentrations where a double-digit fish is common.
 

St. Brandon’s is a saltwater fly-fishing paradise destination with scattered islands, vast sandbanks and sand flats.  St Brandon’s provides the most spectacular Bonefishing you will ever encounter and you can expect to see large shoals of these fish at enormous double-digit sizes with fish with most guests getting opportunities at fish weighing between 9lb -12lb with landed Bonefish up to 87cm and weighing 15lb.

​

Fish are easy to spot in the shallow and clear water with firm sand flats, perfect for wading and casting.

St. Brandon’s has grown to iconic status in the world of saltwater fly-fishing hosting the world’s most spectacular Bonefish fishery.

INDO-PACIFIC PERMIT AND MONSTER GTS
​

Saint Brandon’s atoll is also home to Indo Pacific Permit, Giant Trevally and Bluefin Trevally, which are numerous all year round.  
 

Indo-Pacific Permit fish ranging between 5lb -20lb can be caught here.  If you are serious about Permit, St Brandon’s is a must!
 

St Brandon’s also offers the opportunity for some real monster GT’s, where you can catch more fish over a meter than under. Giant Trevally reach weights in excess of 100 lbs here.

​

Other species found include Bluefin Trevally, Golden Trevally, Yellow Dot Trevally and Green Spot Trevally. Large Bluefin Trevally are around in good numbers and guests frequently land fish between 15lb - 20lb.

​

In addition, you will almost certainly to encounter Dogtooth Tuna, Coral trout, various Snappers and a lot more while popping or spinning.

​

If a trophy size fish is what you are looking for then this is definitely the place to go!

YACHT BASED FISHING & FLY FISHING

​

From your charter catamaran you have the option to choose whether you want to try fly fishing for big bonefish, trevallies, indo Pacific Permit and a number of other species, or if you prefer to try popping or spinning for Saint Brandon’s notoriously big Giant Trevally.

​

Anglers will have access to fishing skiffs and can choose how and what they want to fish every session, every day.
 

If you want to take a break from fishing we suggest you hunt for crayfish in the shallow waters on the reefS and bring back dinner for a seafood BBQ on the yacht.

For those non-anglers on board, the atoll is a dream place for those looking to unwind and enjoy a paradise beach destination.

 

The atoll has some of the most amazing beaches you will come across, huge shallow lagoons and an abundance of turtles, reed fish, rays and other marine life.

 

Go snorkelling, free diving or kitesurfing, bird watching or just put your feet up, read a book and unwind.

ST BRANDON'S FLORA AND FAUNA

​

This Indian Ocean paradise is home to thousands of birds and giant sea turtles lay their eggs on the deserted beaches. The outer reef of Saint Brandon is teaming with life. Crayfish, crabs and octopus all share this healthy ecosystem and are present in such great numbers that tourists visiting Saint Brandon are allowed to collect crayfish for daily meals while on yacht charter.

​

Albatross Island which is the largest of the St Brandon islands is a real birds’ sanctuary. Thousands of birds compete for every inch of an area and among the birds, you can expect the “ye-ye”, the “virgin” and the “makoa”.

WHAT MAKES ST BRANDON’S SO SPECIAL?

  • You will catch more and bigger bonefish here than anywhere else on Earth. St Brandon’s is recognized as the best bonefishing destination in the world where anglers can expect to see an endless parade of bonefish, both as schools of 4-6 pound fish and enormous singles and doubles that can easily push into double digit weights.
     

 

  • St Brandon’s is also one of the most productive Indo-Pacific Permit fishery in the world with an ideal habitat for Permit. Unaffected by human interference and no commercial fishing the populations are as high as you will find anywhere. When specifically targeting these gloriously fish you will often get multiple shots per day.
     

 

  • St Brandon’s is also home to Giant Trevally that can reach monstrous proportions. While other Indian Ocean destinations are known for large numbers of GT's  St. Brandon’s has smaller populations but a much larger average size than found elsewhere. When you encounter GT's here, they are frequently trophy sized.
     

 

  • St Brandon’s is a true saltwater wilderness and one of the most remote flats fishing destinations in the world. 50 small islands, coral ridges and vast sand flats extends 50 km from north to south.  The island group is only accessible by a yacht or boat with a 24+ hour open sailing cruise from Mauritius to get there. With no impacts from the outside world, this vast area of flats are pristine and untouched, allowing opportunities for anglers to cast to double digit bonefish rare Indo-Pacific Permit and monster sized Giant Trevally.

 

  • The flats are primarily made of white compacted sand, ideal for easy wading, all day long. This allows you to get closer to the fish, and stalk bonefish in singles and pairs.

Day 0 - Pre Charter Night on Mauritius Island (recommended)

Day 1

  • 16h00 - Embarkation of passengers from jetty followed by captain’s briefing on security & safety on board and explanation of the itinerary

  • 17h30 - Leave Caudan and sail off to St Brandon, 430 km North East of Mauritius for 36 hrs navigation

  • Dinner is served

  • Overnight
     

Day 2 

  • Sailing continues towards the Cargados Carajos shoals

  • Day on board sailing

  • Trolling & fishing during the day

  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served

  • Overnight
     

Day 3

  • Around 05h30/06h00 arrive at St Brandon

  • Breakfast is served

  • Passengers are free to either relax and enjoy a calm sleep after the long sail or decide to get off board, swim,  snorkell, sun tan on the beach OR FISH!
     

Day 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

  • During these days guests will be able to spend their time fishing, as much as they want, from the yacht, the beach, the fishing boat, or wading in the shallows.

  • After fishing, why not visit some of the smaller islands around, “hunt” for lobsters, go snorkeling, swimming,  sunbathe or just relax.

  • All the islands have a rich flora and fauna. The total number of islands on the reef is about 40 and lots of them are still unnamed.
     

Day 9

  • Last day of fishing to catch that last monster. We depart from St Brandon in the afternoon at about 16h00. Sail Overnight
     

Day 10

  • Whole day sailing and fishing along the way back to Mauritius

Day 11 (estimate day of return if weather is not bad)
