FISHING PREMEIRAS BANKS – MOZAMBIQUE

The Premeiras Banks in Mozambique is a string of islands, reefs and shoals that offer a world class fishing charter experience.

 

Ten islands are separated by reef’s and shallow banks forming the Premeiras Islands and are only accessible by live-aboard fishing charter boat.

 

This is a real fishing hot spot and true open ocean fishing adventure at its very best. The reefs and banks are 45 nautical miles out to sea and upwelling current up the walls brings in all the bait fish you can imagine, with Yellow Fin Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin, Sail Fish, Dog Tooth Tuna and GT’s being common catches.  

 

The only way to fish Premeiras Banks is on a live-aboard charter fishing boat and we operate charters from May to November each year.

Charters depart between 14.00 -16.00 on day 1 and cruise over night to the banks and return by 9 am on the last day.

50ft Catamaran

  • Fish in Mozambique on board our 50ft catamaran, which is a perfect cruising yacht to enjoy a Mozambique fishing charter.

 

Charter Yacht Accommodation & Facilities

​

  • She has 3 spacious double en-suite cabins for max 6 guests.

  • With a cockpit area protected from the elements, the Helmsman is placed to socialise from commanding post while viewing of the sails and winches from the steering position are unobstructed.

  • The saloon and galley is an upmarket affair elegantly finished and with LED lighting, flat screen TV, surround sound system and air-conditioning.

  • A raised saloon floor ensures beautiful views. The rear bulkhead sliding door opens entirely to ensure a free flow from the cockpit to the saloon.

GETTING THERE

​

  • Flights are from JHB, South Africa to Quelimane in Southern Mozambique

  • On arrival we collect guests from the airport and take 10 min drive to where the yachts are moored.

  • Quelimane, is 16 KM up river Rio dos Bons Sinai.

  • It’s a 16 Km cruise down the river to reach the ocean, before we head north to the islands and reefs/ banks.

  • However the river cannot be navigated after dark due to sand banks, wildlife, other local wooden fishing boats etc.  ​

  • There is normally no delays at the start with flight arrivals, so we fully expect to depart down the river and be on the ocean on day 1, however if there is a delay in flight arrival times, we will be unable to navigate the river after dark for safety reasons and will then depart at first light on day 2

For Jigging, Popping and Spinning fishing guests must bring their own personal gear.

  • Medium to heavy popping and jigging rods

  • Reels for popping nothing smaller than Saragosa or Stella 14000

  • Jigging Saragosa / Stella 18000 comparative size.

  • Braid - popping 80 pound jigging 100 pound.

  • Leader popping 120 pound jigging 180 pound.

  • Poppers x 4 Cubera Dark Star or Chug Norris and SOX poppers 180 cm

  • Stick baits Britt and Starwalker are good subsurface lures

  • GT ice cream also works for top water Nomad Dartwing.

  • Jigs (if you know how to vertical jig) 350 to 450 gram glow in the dark for Dogtooth Tuna. Otherwise, 300 to 350 slow pitch - MUST be glow in the dark.

  • 180 to 200 gram slow pitch for the GT also glow in the dark. Nomad Sqidtrex also a good jig to keep in your tackle box.

  • 200 pound swivels and split rings

Our role is limited to arranging bookings and introducing clients to independent yacht owners and fleet operators (“Suppliers”), who are solely responsible for the vessel, crew, safety, maintenance, itineraries, and the delivery of all charter services.
 

All bookings are subject to our Terms & Conditions as agent, together with the Supplier’s Terms & Conditions as the service provider. By accepting a quote, confirming a booking, or making payment, the client acknowledges and agrees to be bound by both sets of terms. Supplier terms will be provided and should be reviewed carefully, as they govern cancellations, amendments, liabilities, and operational matters.

Pricing may vary due to availability, travel dates, number of guests, currency fluctuations, supplier adjustments, or errors and omissions. Quotes do not constitute a confirmed booking.
