KATAVI WILDLIFE CAMP

OVERVIEW

A safari to the remote Katavi National Park in Tanzania, staying at Katavi Wildlife Camp.

Katavi National Park is wild, remote and little known. The thick concentration of game, especially as the seasonal lakes disappear, will astound even hardened safari-goers.

The camp is unfenced and wildlife wander around freely.

For safety, Maasai guides take guests on short walking safaris between their rooms and other camp areas.

Safaris in Katavi offer a varied and rewarding experience. Drive along crocodile-infested rivers, through arid plam studded sand bars, and skirt seasonal lakes, seeing quantities of game reminiscent of a bygone era.

Katavi Wildlife Camp

This is a remote and less well known park and as such, there are less people, but there is huge concentrations of wildlife.

At a size of 4470km2, its the third largest park in Tanzania and its landscape is dominated by 3 large floodplains strung together by the Katuma River which boasts one of the largest population of Hippo and Croc.  The savanna plains fill with huge herds during the day time and the equally impressive selection of predators wait patiently for their return to the woodland towards the end of the day.

Katavi Wildlife Camp is set on the edge of the Katisunga plain, nestled in the woodland that skirt this seasonal lake. Katavi Wildlife Camp blends naturally into it's environment, and enjoys one of the best views in the park.

With only 6 luxury safari tents and a max of 12 guests, this camp offers a more initmate bush experience.

KATAVI WILDLIFE CAMP

The camp is located where the Katuma river drains the Katisunga plain. The two-storey main banda is perfectly located to maximise viewing of the game's daily movements between grazing and drinking from the Katuma river.

Downstairs consists of a bar, a few sitting areas with comfortable armchairs, and a cosy dining area at the front of banda, overlooking the Kitasunga plains.

Upstairs is a sitting area where guests can relax in the heat of the day, with stunning and far-reaching views overlooking the Katisunga plains. There is a small selection of books and magazines to browse.

Just out the front is our fire-pit, where guests can have a pre-dinner drink and swap stories from the day’s safari.

From November to February the park turns green and lush, still with excellent viewing and better than ever bird populations.
